20 Minutes a Day - 'Painting Challenge'

Watercolour and Acrylic on Paper It's amazing what you can do in 20 minutes! My Daniel Smith colour palette - for now. Glass palette and pencil tin Washi taped the paper to my old pencil tin. At the beginning of the year I participated in the @ learntopaintpodcast #20for20artchallenge2022 hosted by @kellyannepowers About the challenge: 1. All subjects, all media, all skill levels welcome. 2. No need to finish a painting. 3. Commit to 20 minutes and share what you create on Instagram using the #20for20ArtChallenge2022 hashtag. 4. Celebrate your showing up. This was day 1 at #tathrabeach , watercolour and acrylic on paper. It was interesting to realise how much you can actually achieve in 20 minutes, and in some ways - how much clearer the decision making process becomes.. This was completed in 2x20 minute blocks. I finished the 20 day challenge with surprising results. My painting skills improved and it became easier to stay 'in the zone'. ...

Blogging and The Creative Practice

Can Blogging become a part of the Creative Practice, without taking too much time away from painting? (Gosh, I hope so). Currently, technology learning is consuming all of my creative time and energy. It feels a little like the rubber band keeps pulling me backwards - with a sharp twang. Determined, and a little obsessed maybe, I have a feeling that I'm going to win this! Eventually. Might take a while. In the meantime - lets click on these links and see if they work, shall we? Painting Seaweed

One of the joys of being a nature artist and living at the coast, is being able to collect specimens (or subject matter), from the beach, and the consequent, distinctive smell of seaweed in the studio. Noted; this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for the Piscean thalassophile, that I am... it is certainly one of my happy triggers. Timed Painting

Timing yourself to paint can produce interesting and surprising results. Try giving yourself a limited time to complete a painting. 20 - 40 minutes is a good place to start. I found I was less concerned with getting the colours right and I didn't get bogged down in the details (which I usually love). It's the perfect practice for Artists with a day job!
